ABOUT
Thilli Studio
Colourful abstract painter and tattoo artist
MY STORY
My name is Camille Thirifay, I am a Belgian visual artist born in 1996 in Brussels. I moved to Barcelona in 2021 and fell in love with this vibrant city, of which I get very inspired. Shortly after that, I stepped into the skateboarding scene and its amazing vibe and community. Quickly, I realised that I could actually turn waste (used skateboard decks) into art, giving them a second life outside of the skateparks.
My art consists of abstract shapes that are rather organic and very colourful. I also like to create contrast by using black and white geometrical shapes in my work. I mainly use acrylic paint, but love to try new techniques such as Swipe Paint Pouring.
My spiritual root was born in the late 60's and grew up in the 70's/80’s ; I am very inspired by the colourful organic shapes, retro style and psychedelic universe of these decades. As technology was at its premises, nature was the main source of inspiration, which is also mine: I am passionate about any kind of sky (stars, sunrise and sunsets are my favorites). I would spend hours watching it. The 70's also mark the emergence of pop culture and advertising, another source of influence for my art. I always create with music, which also feeds my creativity: it is either groovy sounds and disco music, or dreamy and peaceful latino-american tracks. The 60's and 70's are the grounding of the hippie era, represented by pink / redis tones, colours that I use in almost every piece.
My goal is to bring joy and happiness, warming people’s hearts by turning waste into art and enlighten the skateboarding scene, driving communities together. I deeply think that this world needs more colours, art and creativity; it connects humans with each other and with nature. Art allows to express oneself, communicate emotions impossible to convey with words. The beauty resides in the observers interpretation of the art piece, based on one’s experience and sensitivity.
The beginning of 2023, marked a turning point in my artistic skills, since I got into the tattoo industry. I have so much fun bringing the organic abstract nature of my work onto people’s skin and meeting new people every day.
ABOUT ME
I have always liked painting and drawing, since I was a child. But my very first passion was dancing; I practiced ballet, jazz, contemporary, hip hop and raga dance for many years. Although, I chose to follow a quite traditional career path. I studied international trade and graduated with a master in management, back in Brussels. Art has always been an intricate part of my life, but it is only when I got to Barcelona that it manifested as a mandatory way of expression of my emotions, and the best way to connect to my peers.
I consider myself a down to earth and determined person. I can sometimes get crazy, but most of the time I tend to be serious (I laugh a lot don't get me wrong). I am caring and loving, always there for the people in my life. I love to make new encounters, talk with people. I have a dynamic and positive personality, always up to learn and try new things; indeed, I get bored easily...
I also enjoy analog photography. I mainly shoot beaches, architecture and moments of life, especially when it comes the skateboarding community.
